Just found this website myself. It seems like this site is more active than most jazz forums. Anyhow, I have been playing guitar for a long time, but I have begun concentrating more on jazz and blues in recent years. I look forward to chatting with all of you. Where is everyone from incidentally? I am from Southern New Jersey. For those of you in the area, that would be "South Jersey."

Welcome JerseyJazz. We're trying to revive this poor little site so keep checking back. Feel free to ask any questions. I'm from Canada by the way. Talk to you soon.

Jersey, I was born upstate, in Schenectady. Then moved to Illinois, Tennessee, now Texas.
I bet you do jazz versions of Springsteen songs...really, though, tell us some tunes you like to play, what you're working on now.

What a kick in the pants. Hosts cancelled on me...not sure why...but they emailed me and said so. So there's some money out from that. I want to have a site...with the forum still...jazzguitar.net is availible...but I don't really know if I want to put money into it right now. We can chat on this for the time being I suppose...but when I bring it up...I'm going to bring the ENTIRE site up with the other pages and not just the forum. Input?

Hey, Shawn. I read this and what you wrote on Change and Progress. I'll send you a PM in a minute.
First though, I want to let Jersey Jazz know a couple of quirks with this board's program. When you come back, it probably won't remember anything, so you usually have to login, type in your name and password, before you can post again.
Also, it doesn't send you e-mail notification of replies, unless you check the little box below where you type something in. Otherwise, it works like most messageboards.
Enjoyed all your thoughts and comments from yesterday, Jersey, hope you hang with us for awhile.

Thanks for the heads up. I noticed the quirks with the site. It does seem that there is a bit more response on this site than most so I guess you have to take the good with the bad. I haven't been jazzing up Springsteen tunes (I'm sure Bruce would appreciate that ) Right now I am working on improving my jazz technique more than anything. I have been playing for years but I want to "fill in the holes" in my playing right now. I mostly play Blues and Jazz. The era of jazz that I seem to connect to the most is the cool jazz and modal jazz era. Miles Davis-Kind of Blue, and the like. What about the rest of you?

I was thinking...if I were to copy the html into the page and poaste it on the new site...and "lock" the forums on here (after time passed and the site was proven to be working) and not have it able to reply...then it could be an archive-type thing.

Jersey, there's a Blues thread going over at Theory, and a thread about Kind Of Blue at Recordings. You might want to lay down some of the progressions that you like to play over, I know this place seems a little disorganized, but good stuff is getting added here every week. You really can sit in front of your computer and play with it. Have you ever played Blue In Green? The place I got the chords from didn't have them illustrated in any way, it was fun figuring out. But I'll show you what I play, if you don't want to strain your brain. I don't think anyone else here has tried it so far.

I missed the Kind of Blue thread. I will check it out. As for progressions, I have played Blue in Green. Not an easy progression to say the least, but I love pretty much every song on Kind of Blue. As for progressions, right now I have been playing mostly over the basic ii V I progression, trying to improve my ability to improvise. What I usually do is break down chord progressions to their basics and then add variety with my solos over the basic chords.

There's an aebersold book that's completely about that (ii V I's in all keys major/minor...etc.) It's called [ironically] The II-V7-I Progression (It's the third Aebersold Volume. You can find it at www.jazzbooks.com (The aebersold site).

Hi Mahayana ,Jazzalta and Jerseyjazz. I just found this place as well and am very excited on the possibilities. You can actually get a free trial / less feature of the Band in the Box program from there site and people actually have files already made and can download. I have not bought the program yet, and use the files so I really don't need for now. I will post more about with links on the new site under resources. New site is www.jazzguitarforum.com/forum See you there. Jerseyjazz, where in jersey. I am by Trenton Stephan

Hello, pensk. Glad to have you here. Would you do me a personal favor? If you play anything of mine, please click "reply" and tell me what you think of it. I've been goofing around since I got here, trying to share musical ideas, still not sure what has been successfully communicated. Thanks. (my real name is Andy)
And you are right that the possibilities are exciting, I've been hooked since day one.
