Charlie Parker Omnibook. It's a must for bebop style licks.

Ulf is a great guitarist. I saw him on TV with Oscar Peterson and he blew me away. In fact I went out and bought a black les paul after that program. A little impulsive I must admit, but he impressed me that much. At any rate I ended up with my current jazz box, Gibson es-175. But yeah, Ulf is great.

Anders, these are just the "solo" albums, and doesn't include compilations or "best of." But I think it's around 20 or so. I've been buying these over the years and will eventually get them all on disk.
To tell you the truth, I've been doing way more playing/practicing than listening. 'Course I'm 50 and retired so I have all the time in the world. I'm so glad I put the time in when I was younger. Even tho I'm still learning, a lot of my playing now is like the proverbial "icing on the cake." It's nice to able to finally play what I hear.

I finally bought all the Joe Pass solo albums (quite a few). Also I'd highly recommend any Lenny Breau you can get your hands on. Not sure of the names of them but I bought them before they went out of print (they're on vinyl, transferred to cassette).
I also listen to all kinds of jazz on our eclectic radio station (CKUA) You can get it on the net (ckua.com). I've learned from all kinds of sources (horns, piano, B3 organ, violin, etc. etc.). It's that whole process of creativity that I absolutely love.

Hi again. Yeah, I've done Mac before with my son (vocalist) but I've never done it as a solo arrangement. There's so much I'm working on now but maybe someday I'll get after ole Mackie. Talk to you later.

I learn the tunes in original keys as much as possible (as found in the Real Books: www-user.tu-chemnitz.de/~adams/realbook). The tablature edit program is 2,135,830 bytes. I don't know if that can be sent in an email or not. But I might be able to burn you a CD copy. Also, for the sake of conversation you might want to consider logging into either Yahoo messenger (my handle is "jazzalta" there) or MSN messenger. Might be a lot more convenient. Just a thought. Talk to ya later.

Hi again. Band-in-a-box is a software program. It costs around $100.00 Canadian and is available from pgmusic.com or most music stores. It provides all you need for playing with. You just type in the chords and it does the rest, or you can download BIAB files from the internet. A great program!
I play most of the established standards (eg., Misty, Georgia, Girl from Ipanema, yadda yadda), and can read melody lines from charts like you'd find in the Real books. I also play jazz piano so I tend to be pretty busy with practicing. But jazz is my passion, even tho I play in a weekend country band. I have TONS of guitar arrangements in Tabledit format if you'd like to give them a stab. Keep in touch.

Hi mayayana. What a lonely place here. Anyway, I having been playing jazz for awhile now, rank amateur tho. Just ordered a new Gibson ES-175 and am looking forward to it. I pretty much play solo ala Joe Pass because there's not too many folks here that play jazz. I use Band-in-a-Box exclusively for practice. Well, that's about it. I'll check back occasionally. If you want to chat outside this arena I'm at kctolley2@hotmail.com. Talk to ya later.

I just found this site and am amazed it's not very active. Is there a reason for this?

If you have a humbucker, I'd try either a Gibson classic 57 or a Seymour Duncan Jazz.

I play at professional gigs and find my Fender hot rod deluxe has "plenty" of power at 40 watts, and it's twice as light as a twin. I rarely have the volume over 4 on it. I run my ES-175 thru it and my Epi Sheraton. A great amp.

Being a strong advocate of Boss products, I use a Boss ME-50. It covers all the bases and is extremely user friendly (knobs you can turn). I cover a lot of styles with a lot of guitars and this can do it all.
