Hello. I put this up on the old/new site and will give it another go. I recently bought a used Heritage Golden Eagle. I love it. It is a like an L-5. Sounds great acousticaly and good pluged in. I am in the process of changing the pickup with a real Kent Armstrong PAF floater. I heard them on some other guitars and was real impressed. I actually am selling a 70's Gibson Super 400. I like the Heritage better for a lot of reasons. I would love to get a Palen. Had the opportunity to play a few next to some vintage gibsons, benedetto's and others and was very impressed. They sound great and they are beautiful.

Hi Kawe, Great to see you again. You have a real nice collection. If you really want an L-5, I recommend trying a Golden Eagle like mine. It is just like an L-5. My brother has a 60's L-5 with PAF's and mine is pretty darn close. Heritages are actually made in Kalamazoo Mich in the same factory and by the same people that made the Gibson's till the mid 80's when they moved. And my brother just bought one off of ebay for less then $2000. A lot cheaper then a new or used L-5. Just an idea. As far as a limited budget, I definetly understand as I have a wife and son too. I guess they are worth it. ;D ;D

thx for your advice! unfortunately heritage guitars are very rare over here in germany - and expensive, too (~ 5400 $ for a golden eagle). but i'll have an eye on ebay auctions.

Maybe I could buy one and bring it over on a plane. ;D It would give me a chance to visit relatives near Frankfurt.

I've always wanted a real jazz guitar. Solid, carved woods and a floating pickup. Benedettos are very nice, and so was a new guild artist award I played last weeek. Comins guitars from Florida are also very nice. There seem to be lots of custom builders in jazz guitars, but i don't know enough about them to put down that kind of money.

Hi Professor, Have you ever checked out Heritage guitars. The Golden Eagle I bought used has all solid carved woods and was resonably priced. Also check out Eastman Guitars. They are also solid carved, made in China I believe bu violins/cello makers. Unbelivable sound and playability for a $2200 starting price tag. One cheap but a lot cheaper than most others. Here is there web site. www.eastmanguitars.com/Here is the one I played: Pretty cool.

I just picked up an all wood classical for those Charlie Byrd moments. It's a Larrivee, and I absolutely love it. Sorry no pics yet.

I know him, but I never had the chance to play one of his guitars. You don't find them in music stores very often. But I'm sure, that those are great (and expensive) instruments.

I looked at the website, and the guitars are priced very much in the same range as other custom guitars $7000 to $12,000. You would have a difficult time buying a professional quality cello for less than twice that much money.

That's what I meant with "expensive" or better: not affordable for me.

Well, I'm not going to be buying one anytime soon either. My point is that the Guild Artist Award and the Benedetto are within and above that price range. Many of the Gibsons are much more expensive as well. For hand made, solid wood jazz guitars, they are not expensive.

I think it's semantics Prof. For us with little income, it is damn expensive.

I have: 1. Ibanez PM 120 (Pat Metheny) 2. Gibson ES-335 3. Gibson Les Paul Custom (wine trans 2004) 4. PRS Hollow II with piezo 5. PRS Custom 22 Soapbars They all play jazz beautifully, the PM120 being the smoothest, then the ES-335, then the Les Paul, then the PRS's do it all. All of them are less than a year old except for the ES-335. I want an Gibson Custom jazz box with Bigsby of some kind or a George Benson. Dream...on...
