Hi Qrious, I actually swapped the Gibson for a Hofner New President. I wanted a more acoustic sound and the Gibby just doesn't deliver that. The Hofner has a carved spruce top and is hand made in Germany. A pretty good trade I'd say considering it is brand new.

I'm new to this forum and this is my first post.
For jazz, I have a '77 Gibson Johnny Smith, strung with D'Addario medium flat wound Chromes.

I'm just getting into this forum, so pardon a new post to an old question. I currently own 11 guitars: five Martin acoustics (D-28, HD-28, D-18, D12-42RM, LX1), a Takamine nylon string, Gibson SG, Fender Strat, Gretsch 6120, Gibson Johnny Smith and a dobro. I've gone 'though' three times that many during my lifetime, alwars trying for something better. All of my current guitars rate as 9.8 or 9.9s, except for my '52 D-28. I call it a great looking, playing and sounding 9.0. Prior to the JS, I've owned two ES-175 guitars and absolutely loved them. I don't think you would go wrong with one. Just play it first and make sure it "fits" you, or properly turns you on. Then enjoy, brother.

As far as Jazz Stuff I use an old Guild X-500 (I have had many fat hollow vintage guitars includign a n ES175 and some others but this si the bees knees).
Ihave abunch of amps but my favorites are a Matchless Lightning (yes it can do Jazz) and a vintage 65 Fender Pro Reverb.

Man, what a difference a couple of years make. I was formerly jazzalta, and now have a Hofner, a Tak and an Alvarez classical. And only a Behringer amp, soon to have a Fishman Loudbox.
