JA, just curious, did Nunes and Snyder suggest certain forms of the Fmaj9 and C13-9 with this example?
The Fmaj9 with the 9th on top 1X2213, and the
C13-9 with the b9 on top 8X89 10 9
both seem a little clumsy in this. What do you play?

The Fmaj9 used is X8798X, and the C13-9 is X1222X. Those 13b9's are just moved up three frets at a time within the same measure. I wish I could scan this for you but my bloody scanner is broke. It's really a nice progression with the appropriate inversions.

Just diagram the inversions, and we'll let pinsk do all the work! Just kidding, but I'm still excited by his melody/tab at Blue In Green. Wish I could do that.
That Maj9 form reminded me of another puzzle that I'll post somewhere. I memorized "A Standard Popular Tune With Chord Embellishments" from a lesson book, that starts out with the same form:
Ebmaj9 Cm7 l Fm9 E9 l Ebmaj9 Cm7 l Db7b9 l
X6576X X3534X l X8688X X7677X l X6576X X3534X l X4343X l
No one I ever played it for could guess the tune, me either.
I do like that N&S progression, can imagine a funk take on it.

This is a thread I like, lots of stuff to play!
Any more examples of "jazzin' the blues" that you're performing or having fun practicing?

I've been listening to Keb' Mo' "Sessions at west 54th" (acoustic blues). When I get to playing along with it I'll post some of those progressions. A lot of what you might call "folk blues" lends itself well to improv, even simple tunes like "Baby, Please Don't Go."
