Lately, I've been searching for tone in portable, versatile amps. I'm getting older, and lazier. Last fall I bought an SS Fender Bronco that I have been using for jazz band rehearsal lately. Two weeks ago, I went to the Arlington guitar show, and found a Fender champ for a good price. It sounds similar to the Bronco, but has a more open sound, the Bronco is a small closed-back cabinet, and the champ is a larger open-back cabinet. I'm going to take it to rehearsal tomorrow night. I'll let you guys know how it goes.
Anybody else have a Champ?

Good for you Prof. I got a Fender hot rod deluxe and a little Behringer solid state. Lately I've been putting my archtop thru the PA (for room's sake). Not entirely pleased with that tho. How many watts is the Champ?

The Champ is 6 watts, I think. I put in a Jensen ceramic magnet speaker. It's loud enough for jazz or folk gigs, distortion is by way of volume. It wouldn't be up to a cover gig, or even a blues jam.
"...and a cheesy little amp, with a sign on the front, said Fender Champ." - Frank Zappa, 1979
----- The SS Bronco is 15 watts, has a drive channel, and can drive any external 8 ohm cabinet. So I can run it through my 1 x 12 cab or my 2 x 10 cab if I want, which makes it much louder.
