I realize some of the pain and sorrow I might have caused earlier on with the hopes of getting a real site going and then the problems that arose from that. I have recouperated from the accident and I can play just about as well as I used to be able to, so I wanted to say hello again, and maybe have some warm hellos back. This is the only jazz guitar forum other than yahoo (Which sometimes has very late replies) and my thought was to create something like that. Now I'll leave the site alone as far as trying to get it better and stuff until maybe I have some more prosperous ideas that we all can talk about.
But anyways, I just wanted to say hello and let you know how I'm doing, for I am fine again. In regards to the accident I had that is. LOL.
I have gotten first place in Districts in Kansas City Jazz Districts Competition and this weekend I'm going to go see how I rank High-School-Wise in the state of Missouri. So good luck to myself hopefully...lol.
If you could grant me access back to Admin, or change the Admin name that would be helpful from new people coming and seeing 'houseofshawn' as Shawn and also the administrator as Shawn. I hope we can all get along, for I sensed some tension before I came back.

Hey Shawn!! ;D ;D ;D
Good to see you back! I'm glad you're doing well. Last we heard, you might lose use of one arm. I'm glad that didn't happen.
Things here have been plugging along slowly, sometimes very slowly. As far as the tension you mentioned, I haven't noticed it.
Let us know how your last competition went.

Yeah, the districts went really well. I love competition! Esepecially when I win. I've been hacking away at the state stuff, and I hope to do really well with that as well (at least make callbacks, hopefully Honorable Mention) so I'll let you know how that goes after Saturday. I'll start actively posting soon when I get the free chance.
As always, thanks man

Hey, Shawn.
You being back is a good thing, I think what you called tension was just some fear that this forum might get deleted. We're being extra-cautious about making changes at Admin.
We tried changing the name there once, but it made every Shawn post on the forum have a different name, so we put you back. If you don't mind posting as houseofshawn, I think this is best.
Really glad to hear that your playing ability was not permanently destroyed, whew! Have you got a current favorite tune from your competitions?
Any thoughts about this place? Again, welcome back! We missed you.

The tunes that we try out on are rediculous. They are not musical, it's just something that stubbs people up so they mix it with stuff in the same key. It sucks but when you really get into it it is quite fun (And a workout!) It also has a basic Blues that we do ("Kenny'll Make It" I believe) and "The Preacher" from Horace Silver that's it. A little improv and sight reading and this is what we're judged on. The Etudes that are weird are in three styles: Swing, Ballad, and Latin/Rock which is always in some weird fast time signature. Joy. But I'll let you all know how I do this weekend sometime this weekend around Sunday probably (I don't know when I'll get back from Hickville).

Well, to let you all know, I got second in State. Not bad, but still not the best. Always got to strive, one year left, and then I'm off (hopefully) to University of North Texas to get well.. my ass whipped. And learn of course. ;D

Hey Congratulations!!! ;D ;D ;D
Don't worry about North Texas, it's a pretty friendly place. When do you think you'll start? I might still be there working on my master's degree when you arrive.
BTW, if you don't play piano, start, there is a test to pass to graduate. And as a jazz guitar major, if that's what you want to do, (talk to me first), you'll have to pass a classical guitar proficiency test, but those guys are a great group of teachers. Let me know when your coming to town to visit the school, and I might be able to show you around some.
