I'm a beginner to jazz and I have a question about chord shapes. I noticed some time ago that 6th and the relative minor 7th have the same shape--are the same chord (?). I just figured out that the same is true for minor 9ths and major 7ths...are there other chords which share the same shape/voicing? Thanks in advance from a confused rookie.

You are correct when saying that. They are an inversion, meaning that they are spead out differently than if you thought of it vertically up (C= CEG; vertically up, and inversion might be, C= EGC) So yes, you could use those, however you think of it. C Major 6= C E G A A Minor 7th= A C E G Hey!!! They are all the same notes, that's the way the music world turns...
