I am considering buying a new guitar for jazz. I have an Epiphone Joe Pass model, which is fine, but I would like a better guitar. In the past I have owned a Gibson Johnny Smith, a Gibson Es175D and a Gibson Herb Ellis model-all of which were good instruments, but I sold them for one reason or another. 
I am considering either a Heritage Golden Eagle or a D'Angelico NYl-2. They are both about $3,500. But I havent ever played the D'Angelico and I have played the Heritage. Anyone have any experience with the newer D'Angelicos ? I know the old ones are great guitars and I dont expect these to be of that caliber.
