Where's the new jazz at today? Who's playing that is worth seeing? I missed Pat Martino when he came to town, but I think Jim Hall is coming and I think he'd be worth seeing. But I feel all I know about is guitarists, and I'd like to improve that. Who else is playing out that has made a name for themselves? Has anyone seen anyone in the recent years that they found exceptional?

In November, in the Armadillo Building at UNT in Denton, Blue Lou Marini will be the featured performer with the best jazz band on the planet, the One O'Clock Lab Band. Every year, they have a different guest featured performer. The concert always sells out. It's a "don't miss".

thanks for the link mahayana but the site doesn't have good ole Illinois! We've got some pretty historic venues here, like the Jazz Showcase but I was at their site the other day and I couldn't pick out a name I recognized on the tour schedule. Anyone know any of these cats? jazzshowcase.com/shows.html Sounds like it'd be a good show Prof, but I don't think I can make it out to Texas ;D

Old Town school of folk music? Or is that way off?
That looks like an interesting link, it's just I look at these sites and listings and I don't see anyone I know that I want to see. But I suppose the real thing to do is see what's going on that I don't know about. Maybe I'm stuck in the past listening to these old records, but I haven't seen live performers that I really want to sound like, I want to sound like the records... there's got to be live music out there that is my thing.
I was surfin' the net the other day and I stumbled across a Chicago guitarist (well, moved from New York) but he plays regularly at a place about 20 minutes from here. Bobby Broom. bobbybroom.com, so I'll see him eventually. He actually might be quite the guitarist, I'm going to see what he sounds like live before I check out any of his albums.
Who have you all seen in the past five or so years that really inspired you?
