Have you tried any active pickup humbucker or single-coil (EMG or any other)?

I own a Valley arts guitar with emg SA/SA/85 (s/s/h).
The tone is cool and cristalline on a clean channel (almost acoustic feeling) with the single, the 85 humbucker sound great with the higly distorded tones.
BUT i thing this PUPS sound crapping for jazz thing, not enough warm for me (perhaps an EMG in neck position would be better)
