If you have a humbucker, I'd try either a Gibson classic 57 or a Seymour Duncan Jazz.

I am a huge fan of Kent Armstrong pickups. Check here for details. www.guitarsnjazz.com/stringsandthings.htm#pickups. They get the real thing. Not the imports with his name on it like at WD Music Products. They make both floating and built ins. I am getting the floating PAF for my Heritage Golden Eagle. A lot of the custom luthiers use these. Good Luck

Hi adrian480! That should be a real classic sound now! I'm using it too (in an ES 175).

I just replaced the classic 57 in my 575 with a Benedetto B6. Oh man, it's like night and day. My neck pup runs direct to the output jack. No pots or switches or caps. The bridge pickup is a dummy, a piece of foam in a humbucker ring.
That Benedetto is a very smooth and warm sounding pup.
