I have a really beautiful Godin Stratocaster style guitar with 3 Godin brand single coil size blade humbuckers. It is an incredibly comfortable guitar to play but has a thin reedy tone which doesn't really cut it for jazz. On the other hand it does sound good for more strident playing and sounds excellent with an ibanez Tube Screamer. Also all 5 pick up combinations sound basically the same, unlike on a genuine Stratocaster.
The guitar is in all other ways extremely well made, so I'm wondering if some minor technical problem may be responsible for the lack of tone.
Does anyone have any suggestions for what the problem may be or for a good after market pickup?

Hmmm...
I, too, play a Godin. Although my Godin isn't my #1 guitar for jazz, I find that it's a pretty versatile instrument. I have an LGX which has the Seymour Duncan jazz pickup at the neck position as well as piezo pickups on the bridge to get a quasi-acoustic tone. On mine I'll mix the acoustic tone with the neck pickup and get a fairly respectable tone. If you have the piezo bridge, give it a try. Otherwise, though, you should still be able to do OK just by working with the tone controls on both guitar and amp.
