Greetings,
I've been lurking on the site for a while, enjoying the expertise available here, and waiting for my eBay special to arrive: an Epiphone Emporer Regent. After waiting forever (well, OK, it was only a week, but it sure seemed like forever!) it finally arrived a few days ago. What a great guitar -- nicely appointed, set up nicely, and sounds great. An unexpected surprise was the accoustic tone -- it won't win out over a Martin accoustic, but I find it perfectly acceptable to just kick back and play without bothering to hook up the amp.
The one thing that bothers me is that Frequensator tailpiece -- man that thing is ugly! I've thinking of replacing it with another tailpiece but want to make sure I don't adversely effect the tone. I "googled" the term, and found various complaints about finding strings long enough to fit it, and a rambling discussion on how it's supposed to balance the volume across the bass and treble strings and the physics of how it works, but no real-world experience on what happens when you remove it.
Does anyone out there have a guitar the originally came with a Frequensator that they've replaced with another tailpiece? Can you comment on how it changed the tone?
Thanks for your comments, Bill Erickson

Bill, most have left this forum. Go here for some lively discussion; www.playjazzguitar.com/forum/index.phpYou may want to try a Benedetto tailpiece. They look nice. I used to have an Emperor and didn't like the frequensator either. Then I saw some pictures of it with the guitar in the playing position and it started to grow on me. Now I thik it's the Mutt's Nutts. ;D Try the other forum. I'll see you there. - Steve ?;^)~
