I guess this is the place your supposed to put up threads about being new ('cuz.... that's what I'm doing)
I'm a regular on forums at the site guitartricks.com, and they offer good advice and we have a good time on the boards, but you don't get much help with jazz there. So its kind of bad, because when people need help for jazz they come to me, and I'm relatively new to it.
So I was searching for info. on Barney Kessel, and this site came up, everbody seemed pretty nice, so I decided to join.
I'm mainly into swing and bebop, and improvising in them is harder than everbody thinks (I wish some of this ego loaded shredders would try to solo over "a night in tunisia, and see how far they get!)
I'm also into blues, and rock, but Jazz is becoming my passion.
See ya on the forums!

Hey, Ace. Thanks for telling us about guitartricks.com/It is fun to share things about jazz. What kinds of questions do you get asked? What are some of the Swing and Bebop tunes you're playing? Is there a dance scene where you live? Some of those swing moves are pretty amazing to watch!

People that want to learn jazz (and there aren't that many over at guitartricks...) usually want to know how to improvise... but the occasional theory question pops up.
I usually listen to a track and sing over it, transfer that onto guitar, then use that and kind of make variations, until I have something new entirely.
My favorite bop songs are A night in Tunisia and Embraceable you
Swing: 'S Wonderful, One O'Clock Jump and Lester Leaps in
I love to watch swing dance, but there's no way in hell I could do it. There's not much opportunity for me to either (I'm 14).

I love to watch swing dance, but there's no way in hell I could do it. There's not much opportunity for me to either (I'm 14). Now wait a minute here! Don't count yourself out without even trying. Lots of gals would gladly teach you so that they can have a dance partner. Guys that can dance and bass players that can sing are never out of gigs.
