Are you guys/girls all on holidays. It's been real quiet around here.

I know what you mean. It's been very quiet here lately. I keep checking in and see that there are no new posts.

Well, I guess I'll just take the rest of the summer off too. See you in September.

I play in an evening jazz big band at a local Jr. College for fun. Almost all the guys are ancient! It's alot of fun, and they have a ton of experience. We start up again next Thursday. I'll let you know what tunes we'll be working on.

My apologies for the lapse. Personal problems, like rats eating the wiring in two of my vehicles, problems at work...I really could share a lot about off-topic concerns. Like the old Grateful Dead song "this darkness got to lift!" Do any of the rest of you have jazz versions of late 60's rock? I've been fooling with a couple of Rod Stewart songs, "You're In My Heart, You're In My Soul" (nice intro) and the mysterious "Broken Arrow."

Do any of the rest of you have jazz versions of late 60's rock? No, I don't, but Ive been thinking of doing a few arrangements for chord melody solo. Like "Killing Me Softly" or even "Ben".

I'd be interested in a "Killing Me Softly" arrangement. Go for it!

Looks like another "quiet time" is going on. I thought about starting another Where Is Everybody? thread at off-topic, but we've already had a few, so just thought I'd add to this one.
For me, the distractions are still work and vehicles (my van is getting some expensive repairs), plus my mother is now in a hospice unit and I'm flying to Delaware on Wednesday. Taxes due shortly, no W2 form. Basically, stressing out over a few things that will probably resolve within the next few weeks.
I'm not one to catastrophise, hey it's Springtime in West Texas. Where there's life, there's hope kind of thing.
So, what's going on with you guys?

Our home p.c. is up and running again after crashing....so I'm tuning in again to the forum....and as you say ...it's real quiet......... I sometimes wonder..with something like 200 members...why isn't there more being posted? Is there a way of opening up the forum for more action in postings? Of the total number of members how many actually are tuning in regularly? Is there a way of knowing? By the way Springtime in West Texas is Autumn in Marlborough,NZ......often our nicest season...

I've been really busy too. Next week we'll be going out of town. All weekend I did yardwork, cleaned out the garage, and washed all the cars, and some other maintenance work. There are a lot of times when I will check in here to see if there's something new, if not, I go on to other things usually. And it looks like my aural skills thread ran some people off....or maybe it was something else.

Well, I wouldn't worry about certain threads running people off. There are plenty of interesting things up for discussion everywhere- and we're open to just about any question or comment.
As for maintaining a high level of activity- I'm not sure that's realistic. If you click on Members, you see that a lot of people join and never post, or post just once. This is a small place with a big subject. I've thought of doing a history (talk about obscure threads!), but basically there was a big response at the beginning, August-Nov 2002, and Shawn Strickland's idea drew some great people who may not even know it's still here.
Now it's a little club, maybe 20 people active in this go-around. So you get to be a big fish in a little pond, or something like that. Funny to think that we could intimidate anybody, but it's good to respond positively to everyone that does post. In the final analysis, we're here to learn and share, promote ideas.

Well, I haven't forgotten about this place. School's in session, you know. I spend my time playing guitar, doing school work, and spending time with friends. I've actually been jamming with this rock band and having a good time. I've been thinking maybe I'll sign up for the jazz combo at a community college near me this summer. Depends on how involved I get with other things. Sometimes I take on too many responsibilities. But I enjoy reading/posting here, so don't count me out yet

Slowpoke, Go ahead and sign up for that combo. I play in a community college big band. Some of the guys have been in that same band for well over a decade.
