I just checked out that site, and while there seems to be some good information there, the number of pop-ups makes it completely a waste of time.

I had somewhat the same experience, Prof. Maybe those with good pop-up blockers could explore it more, but I looked around a little and got out of there.
We did have another thread in this section, comparing finger-picking and plectrum, but it was lost with the last "new site."
I recall, you advised folks to start out with classical; how do you do the transition to the pick, Prof? Have your students do scales and speed studies, alternate picking like Berkee (Leavitt)?

Since using a pick is much easier, it doesn't tend to be a problem. I have students practice scales, yes, but no "speed exercises". Proficiency and accuracy should be the objective, as speed has no purpose by itself. When proper technique, confidence (from practice), and accuracy combine, speed is a by-product, and will develop all by itself. No time need be wasted there.
