Get into the poll!!!! Personally, I really enjoy listening to Kind Of Blue since it was near the beginning of the whole "modal jazz' era. I really enjoy listening to modal jazz so, I think it's pretty cool. It's amazing what these guys can do over such static chord changes... Just my two cents.

I just finished reading Ashley Kahn's book about the album; it's a great glimpse into what it must've been like. The session details are amazing; recording took 6 hours, the players other the Miles made about $165 each(!), the scales were simply written out and the tape rolled. Totally reinspired me to listen to it. I actually had to go and buy the newer release with the correct speed so I could TRY and play along. Here's a humble opinion; I decided to dig out guitarist's versions of the tunes (So What and All Blues), and after many hours, I came to the conclusion that no one can improve on those takes! On to "Love Supreme" by Coltrane; same author did a book about those sessions.

Personally, I prefer Stanley Turrentine's "Blue Hour" (my CD says "Blue Horn" in one place, guess the cats at bluenote had two titles in mind), but I do dig Miles, except when he gets too treble-y for my ears. Stanley plays tenor, the king of mellow ballads.
My favorite tune on "Kind of Blue" remains All Blues- Doo...do doo...do doo...do doooooooo. Should have been a hit single, somebody, get the playlist meisters to put it on the weather channel, hah! Kind of Blue really is one album everybody should have. As for Coltrane's "A Love Supreme"- what's the deal with the chanting part?
For masochists, here's the chords to "Blue in Green", they really work to play along with the CD. I leave it to you for now to do the brainwork it takes to invent your own playable forms (you do know how to do this, right?). Have fun.

Forgot to check the little box to get notified if you say hello or what-the-heck? ??!!!!!! Honest, I still couldn't do MD's solo over these chords, and the recording was supposedly done in one take, no dubbing at all back then. Amazing musicians!

Kind of Blue is definitely one of my favorite jazz albums. I think that it is also one of those recordings that has managed to cross over to more than just a jazz oriented audience. I know many people that are not real into jazz, but own this recording. Personally, it is from my favorite era in jazz and all tunes on the recording are great.
M: I will have to check out your chord progression on Blue in Green when I get home from work. If you want to hear a good rendition of Blue in Green and All Blues, check out Pat Martino's "Live at Yoshi's." Very nice.

I worked a job 45 miles away for a few years, and Kind Of Blue was a cassette I probably played more than 100 times, driving on the interstate. Not many recordings keep my interest like that.
I would like to get the melody of Blue In Green someday, I was just happy to learn something to play along with it. Amazing that MD managed to make such a beautiful tune over those chords.
Another Miles tune I've thought of posting chords to is Nardis. Much easier to play, mostly minors and maj7ths, and I learned it in G.

Hey, Jersey. I posted diagrams for the way I play the strangest Blue In Green chords over in Theory. Thought it might be easier for others to find there. Just ask, and I'll draw the rest of them out, too.
