Has anyone checked out the new Derek Trucks Band live CD “Live at Georgia Theatre”? I got it on itunes today and it sounds awesome! They’re selling a full show for just $9.99. I checked out The Derek Trucks Band website and they are selling copies there too. They’re autographing the pre-orders so I might just have to get one of those as well. I was actually at this show and am thrilled they released it. It’s a great show! I love how they can blend so many different styles into one. If you haven’t checked out this band live you should really check this show out! ~Nicole

Hi, and welcome to the forum. Thanks for the information. I have never heard Derek Trucks Band but from the information I got from Allmusic and the website of the band it sounds very interesting. I'm going to download their debut album. It features some jazz tunes like Coltrane's Mr. P.C. and Naima, Miles' So What and Shorter's Footprints. Enough for me to give it a chance.

Add my welcome, freebyrds. Good to have you here.
I did an"artist/search" for Derek Tucker at VH1, it says he has a connection to the Allman Brothers Band, plays slide. My computer wouldn't let me check the one minute track audios (I'm recovering from Wintoolsa) but when I can I'll post a link.
The idea of jazz slide guitar makes sense as far as competing with horns, surprised I've never heard anyone else try it.

I really like Derek Trucks.......particularly a track called "Killer Clown"..........he also did backing for Susan Tedeschi whose track"It hurt so bad" is fantastic, her voice reminiscient of Janis Joplin.......Derek strikes me as being a particularly intelligent blues player.and very creative, stretching the boundaries somewhat in a genre where cliches abound

Derek Trucks is amazing. I saw his band a few weeks ago in New Jersey. They played Coltrane's arrangment of My favorite Things and it blew my mind. The best part of the show had to be at the end when I met him and talked with Derek for a good 5 minitues about everything and anything. Such a amazing person he is.
