I've been buying old records new to me, it's fun getting albums for dollars and rummaging through crates and such. Anyway, just thought I'd chime in and say what I've gotten recently.
Wes Montgomery - Full House, I'm sure many of you are familiar with this live recording, fantastic!
Stephane Grappelli - Uptown Dance, this is more recent with the famous violinist from the hot club of france, his playing is great but unfortunately this is one of those more orchestral albums... I like the smaller groups but this one looked interesting (and I recognized the illustrator that did the album cover. chwast of Push Pin studios, being a desing major sometimes leads me into buying albums I normally wouldn't, damn good designers!)
The Eleventh House featuring Larry Coryell - Aspects, I'd been reading about Larry for a while so when I saw this record for 93 cents I figured it'd be worth checking out. Wow! I usually steer away from fusion and like the more straight ahead stuff. Well this album may have changed my opinion a bit. It's really interesting, a lot of Larrys soloing reminds me of Santana with that harmonic sort of distortion.
I also got a best of Lionel Hampton, haven't listened to it yet but I'm fairly sure of what it will sound like.
I think I might go garage saleing tomorrow as I haven't been going much the past couple years... anything I should keep my eyes out for?

Hi, SP.
I'm a Hamp fan. I love vibes. A couple of his records that I have are "Mostly Ballads" and "Mostly Blues." Also have the "Legendary Decca Recordings" double CD set.
Look for Stanley Turrentine albums. "Blue Hour" is a classic. I'm listening to a new re-release of his music now, "Betcha," (recorded in 1979).

A friend recently gave me a copy of Taste's "On the Boards ". This was Rory Gallagher's band back in the 60s.. While Rory is essentially a blues guitarist (in fact he was an all round good guitarist)this album has much that is jazz on it.......and worth grabbing if found in a bargain bin.....as is any old album by Taste.

One of my most listened to albums(now lost-alas)was Herb Ellis playing with Oscar Peterson in a trio. Good value if found in a garage sale/bargain bin.

I sort of forgot about this thread. Thanks for the recommendations, I'll keep my eye out for those. I've got a few albums with Stanley Turrentine but none of "his." He's so great on Back at the Chicken Shack.
I've never heard of Taste so I'll definitely try to pick some up if I find any. I still haven't really jumped in the Herb Ellis cannon, but I've been meaning to. I've got one record with him and Joe Pass but I think there's better examples of that duo (based on Amazon blurbs and junk). I picked up a pretty cool play a long that actually plays like a jazz record... Herb solos then there's space for you to solo, complete with charts and everything. I'll look for the stuff with Oscar Peterson.
