I just picked up this book today, and I'm looking forward to working on some of the pieces in it. Zappa's guitar playing was amazing, and the transcriptions are pretty wild looking, too. I already have the FZ Guitar book. I'm wanting to get some of his orhcestra scores.....after all, I'm gonna need a thesis topic. ;D

Is this the same Zappa of Suzie Creamcheese, Call Any Vegetable fame? My cousin has a dog named Zap, bought shortly after FZ's death. I had all the early Mothers albums, but he kind of lost me at 200 Motels.

Yes, the same Frank Zappa of 200 Motels fame. That was a wierd movie. I think they ran out of money, and then just put together what they already had...which made it even more difficult to grasp.
Zappa's stuff is not easy listening to be sure. There are alot of things going on, sometimes all at once. His music takes several listenings sometimes before one can appreciate it. But like another great American composer, Charles Ives said, music is not supposed to be completely revealed merely on its surface. Music should reveal its secrets more slowly.

I've only got 4-5 zappa albums (a couple are compilations) but he sure is amazing. Hot Rats is probably the one I listen to most. Peaches en regalia!

Good to see you here, Slowpoke.
I still play "You Didn't Try To Call Me", one of the Mothers' BeBop parodies.
"No matter who I take home, I keep on callin' your name...you're the one, babe!"

Zappa did some amazing BeBop. He did an entire album, in fact. It sounds pretty much like BeBop...unless you listen closely to the words. Then, it's zappa all over the place. The album was called Cruisin' with Rueben and the Jets

Sorry, but I appologize. I got it a little mixed up. Rueben and the Jets is not Bebop, it's Doo Wop.
