These are chords that feature one or more open strings. The effect is usually one or more drone strings, and sounds that can have out-of-order tones, chords which have "impossible" close-together notes.
I use lots of them, will put some cool ones here.
Here's four, to get started-
3X3200 3X3100 3X3210 3X0430
(from "Joe Pass Guitar Chords")

Nice ones, JA. Many also work with the bottom of A chord, like-
577600--- 8 10 10 9 00--- 10 12 12 11 00
or
X77500--- X99700... X44200... X66400

Many teachers advise playing horizontally rather than vertically as it helps you be more articulated. Finger movement also becomes much easier. Particularly with a jazz guitar, the number of chords you need to learn can be quite intimidating initially. There are open string chords, barre chords, and many more. In jazz music, the guitarist embellishes these by stretching them further. For instance, while a rock guitarist would play a C Major, the jazz guitarist will play a C Major 7th and it is precisely this that gives jazz music that straight-from-the-heart feel with the total freedom to explore.
