This is a favouite of mine to play."That ole devil"was written way back when by Doris Fisher, who also wrote "You always hurt the one you love"......it was sung by Billie Holiday,Ella Fitzgerald....and more recently by Alison Moyet. This post I'll just start with the first verse. Please note that the dots between words are there only so I can put the chords beneath the right words
It's that ole ..devil ....called love again .............Am7..D7b9.............Gma7.......Gma6.....
Gets behind me and keeps giving me that ........Bm(799777)...............(798777) shove again (7x6777).....E7(57676x)
Putting rain in my ......eyes .............Am7(5x5555)Am6(5x4555) Tears in my dreams Cm7(335343) And rocks in my heart ......G9(353435)Gdim(xx2323) AmD9(turnaround)

verse 2 It's that ..sly.. old son of a gun again ..............Am7..D7b9............. Gma7...Gma6 He keeps telling me that I'm the lucky one again ................. Bm descending...................................E7 But I still have that rain ......... Am7............. Am6 Still have those tears Cm7 And rocks in my heart .......G9...............Cm ...... Gma7G#dim
Middle section
...........S'pose I didn't stay Am7(5x5555) Ran away,wouldn't play Am6 ..........Cm7 The devil what a potion he would brew .......Gma7..........Bbm7.................Am7.....B7 He'd follow me around Em Build me up,tear me down Em9 Till I'll be so bewildered A7 I wouldn't know what to do Am7 D7b9

verse 3 Might as well give up that fight again ..............Am7.....D7b9..........Gma7....Gma6 I know darn well that he'll convince me .....................Bm...descending... That he's right again ..................................E7 When he sings that sorry song ................Am7.................D7b9 I've just got to tag along ..............Cm7 With that ole devil called love ...............Gma7......Cm7..G
At this point I solo instrumentally thru verse 1 and 2, vocals return for middle section, and last verse. Or.....after that last line vocals can continue with "He'd follow me around."etc.....to finish. Anyway that's roughly how I do this song....hope it makes some sense. If you sing it through you''ll get the timing right. btw.....I change "he" to "she"in the vocals if I'm singing
