it seems like (at least from the descriptions) that gretsch's hollowbodies are geared more towards country music. i haven't actually played one but i'm interested if they make any guitars that are good for jazz since they're prices seem a little bit more reasonable than gibsons.

I think a gretsch would make a fine jazz guitar. People play jazz on strats and teles and tear it up. But Gretsch's have a nice warm sound. I know Chet Atkins is in the country section but the mans got chops and listen to the tone of his guitar. There's a cool lp Chester and Lester which is Chet and Les Paul, it's good. There's also one with Lenny Breau. I think they are difficult albums to find but try searching for some on a p2p program like shareaza.
I digressed a bit, but I think a Gretsch would be fine. If you're in the market for a thinbody check out the Ibanez Artcore series. I've got one with a bigsby style trem. I think the models AF75T, it's the only one I really found appealing but I didn't check the others out. A trem was one of the requirements for my guitar when I was shopping. I use it very infrequently but I just like knowing it's there. Anyway, as long as it has six strings it'll do!
