I'm revisting jazz after about an almost 25 year absence. I started out with a jazz teacher and the seed that was planted finally (I'm 42) grew. I do repairs and have built a few bolt on neck instruments and amps. I recently got a Cort Larry Coryell and would never have dreamed that it could be such a fine instrument. I replaced the PUPs (you guys wouldn't believe what I used!) and switch so far and I am using D'Addario Chromes (.012) strings. During my collecting years, I had 2 Guild archtops (a '59 and a '70) 2 Gibsons ('63 330, 80's 355TD), and an oddball Gretsch. The Cort is easier to play, cheaper to own and less nerve wracking to work on then the others. Anybody lookign for a bargain archtop should seek out and play one!

Yeah, Larrys a real looker (the guitar not Mr Coryell). Feeeeeeeeeedback, oh yes, but not to the point of madness. I have been playing rockabilly and funk for a long time and kinda dig the noise anyway. I have 2 amps; at home is a no name tube amp I found on garbage night; about 5 watts into a 6"inch speaker. The amp and the guitar are in love I think! My other amp is a tweed Deluxe replica I built ; I 'm still perfecting that one. A real benefit is the acoustic sound the guitar has; unplugged it's magic. What type of gear do you have? (sorry if that's an old question)

Hi- it sounds like You can work around the feedback thing-and it sounds like you are onto something with the guitar and amps combination. You build Your own amps?... My setup is pretty basic. Fender tele[86' pink paisley, and an american standard strar[95] thru a reissue fender vibroverb, and sometimes an MXR Dynacomp. I love those big body electrics! i had a Howard Roberts Model years ago, and traded it off.....shame on me. The Cort sounds like a winner.

"Build my own" is an overstatement I'm afraid; I copied the tweed Fender Deluxe circuit. I'm changing to a solidstate rectifier for cleaner more powerful bass, and changing the power tubes for more clean volume. My other main electric is a Tele I put together from parts. I have a thinline Tele body that one day I'll make a guitar out of I guess. I'm a big fan of those paisleys BTW!!
