Man, this is one dead place. Any ideas on how to attract some new blood, any blood?

I was wondering that myself. I keep checking in to see if there's been any activity. Even mahayana hasn't been around in a while. I've been hyper-busy lately, so I haven't posted much.
How do you encourage activity? By posting. The more people who post, the more that other folks will join in.

I don't know... Posting more would help I suppose, but there really needs to be more regulars. I've seen some other jazz forums and a very popular (or at least populated) guitar forum at guitar.zentao.com/forum/ but I'd rather read the posts here, they seem more about music and the type of things I'm interested in. but yeah, I think the problem is there are too few regular posting members.

scary, isn't it? at least everyone didn't agree with it. I was surprised when people were saying there wasn't any guitar leading the pack in jazz. yipes!
i wonder how we could draw in more members or be more productive...

I'm still here, apologies for not contributing lately.
The short answer is that the "upgrade" disrupted the group and cost us participants, as Shawn's new sites did earlier.
And many new members don't ever add comments or questions, but if they learn one new thing here, that's OK.
Prof is right, posting is what makes it go. They've made it more difficult to get email notification of responses, not everyone will check in daily without these reminders. But hey, we're alive, the place is still up, so there's hope. Right?

I'd just like to use this space to encourage newer members to post ideas or questions. There are some very able guitarists on the forum who can answer your queries and/or point you in a rewarding direction to further your jazz guitar aspirations.Just whatever's in your mind, let's hear it.What you are working on.....what youd like to do.....albums you have listened to.....favourite numbers......theory questions..... there is even an "off topic" area where you can put in anything...... let's keep the forum lively!

Tell you which site absolutly COOKS with activity ; The Epiphone Forum on the Gibson site. I don't own an Epi any longer but it makes for interesting reading and lots of conversation. Check it out. (Crowds a little young but who cares).

Maybe we could make a better forum site... there's plenty of better featured free forums that we could customize and maybe even incorporate with a page with jazz reviews, players, etc. maybe some blend between jazzguitar.be/www.hotclub.co.uk/and maybe even classicjazzguitar.com/but have it be a small open (integrated) community... I'd be willing to help but I couldn't commit that much time to it... or if it's worth it. This forum is good and the members are what keeps me here. All of you have such sincere passions it's nice to see. I think if we presented this site and information in a more basic, maybe even more friendly manner we could get more members to come (or all the members that are signed up here to come and participate). Anyway, just rambling. Anyone feel one way or the other? PS I'm not suggesting trying to merge any of the aforementioned sites but to take this content and present it in a fresh manner maybe borrowing some of the hierarchy of the other sites.

I think most of us have had similar thoughts. The whole place would change if the new members who join each week would just post, even to say "hello' and what they're into and are looking for.
Do you think a "beginners corner" would help? We do have lots of material, but it could be rearranged or improved or added to. I'm kind of laid back at this point, but ramble some more! This section was started for just that.

I'm still here! I check in alot more often than I post. I've been really busy. I'm in graduate school, and the new semester just started. Which means new charts to learn and all that. I've got a guitar class that I teach that's full of people and no more openings in my private students. Also, yesterday, I bought a new jazzbox! I'll get a thread up with some photos tomorrow.

It's a nice idea for organization but since there's not many people posting I think it would be less intimidating if it was less overall categories. And I think it sort of becomes less interactive and more like a library. That's just a thought though.

I do hear what you're saying. I had the luxury of reading through the whole board when I first found this place, and even then the arrangement was a bit haphazard. Once we started adding things to Shawn's categories that didn't quite fit, it seemed like an index was needed. That never happened, but after Shawn quit the board (and we got the password to administration) I started adding new categories that the members wanted and moving threads to them.
I think another phase of reorganization would be fine. But it will take specific proposals before something like that can be done. And I'd want everyone to endorse each change.
BTW, the "friendlier" idea is also good, though this board has never had much that I consider unfriendly, unkind, etc. I guess it's all relative, you should see some other places!

Good suggestions so far.
There's a theory about building an online community that suggests very few categories to begin with and letting the trends of the posting dictate when a new category is created. I like that idea because it tends to grow organically that way, and also keeps things pretty simple. I just had a look at this board's category list and I think it's a bit busier than it needs to be. I don't have any recommendations for what to suggest by way of change, other than perhaps some paring down into a few less categories.
I visit the playjazzguitar.com forum a bit. They have a decent sized community and about 6-10 new posts a day consistently. I think they only have 1 or 2 separate categories. Everything kinda' falls under one umbrella. I'm not saying this board should do that, but making it simpler/clearer couldn't hurt.
