I would appreciaet some advice on installing new pickups in my Ibanez AS80 semi-hollow body. I play primarily jazz and wanted a neck pickup that sounded a little more dynamic with chrome flatwounds than the Super 58's that came with the guitar.
I have installed a Seymour-Duncan Jazz (Sn-2) pickup in the neck and am happy with the improved tone. However, there is now a small amount of hum when the new pickup is selected. To install the S-D I had to extend the wires by several inches and the short extension is not shielded (not all of the original wiring was shielded). I soldered the wires and connections carefully. Have I missed some important step in the soldering or shielding.
One curious point. On the AS80 the single wire from each of the standard pickups was wired to the tone pot and not the volume pot. Is this likely to be a problem?
Any help would be much appreciated.

Yes, you should have shielded the wire when you lengthened it. Otherwise, it's an antenna.
BTW, I really like the sound of Super 58s.
