You know, you can create a poll, just re-edit your message. As for me, I am really into Joe Pass because I am getting solo songs together.

Probably Pat Metheny or Tal Farlow. Although Allan Holdsworth, Al Dimeola, John McLaughlin etc. are all very commendable. And total respect to Django Reinhardt.

There is no favourite guitarist for me. ...Think about it...how can you compare the merits of such a varied and numerous community of absolute legends. My "favourite guitarist" is the whole lot of them. Wes, Martin Taylor, Lee ritenour, Joe Pass, Pat Methany, Tal Farlow, Charlie Chritian, Kevin Eubanks, John Schofield,...the list goes on forever.. they inspire us.

what about kenny burrel. I like how he plays rythm and solos at the same time. Jim Hall

At the moment my favorites are Johnny Smith and Herb Ellis. I've recently started listening to Jimmy Bruno, got two albums Midnight Blue and Burnin', both really great.

Undoubtedly, Joe Pass. But very close behind are Tal Farlow, Lenny Breau and Charlie Christian.

Hey, you made me dig out my "Best of Joe Pass" CD. I'm listening it to it right now. I bought a Joe Pass Guitar Chords book several years back, pretty cool stuff. I'm surprised nobody mentioned Stanley Jordan. He's a pretty amazing guitarist.
A guy I've been following since hearing him at W.C.Handy with a small combo is Eric Essix, from Birmingham. My local guitar buddy is a big Pat Metheny fan, so I hear a lot of that music. I've never heard Lenny Breau, but I did spend some time with some of his music from an old "Guitar Player" mag.

Hey, Matt. Welcome back.
I think my favorite Pat Metheny is the first one he did, just called "Pat Metheny Group."
I'll check out that Montreal thing. I like SJ's "Standards" CD, where he's doing songs from the 60s and 70s, along with the older stuff. Hey, it even has "Georgia." My favorite jazz arrangements are where the "head" doesn't get played for awhile, keeps you guessing. Maybe it's just lazy, but I like songs I already know pretty well.

1-John Mclaughlin: although many people don't like his latest stuff, I find it very honest and he's a true artist.
2-Jim Hall: a true master of jazz
3-Kenny Burrell: One of my first guitar influences, he started so well, but I don't know what happened at the end.
4-Pat Martino: A genius, one of my biggest influences.
5-Russell Malone: That guy is ggggggoooddddd!.
6-Pat Metheny: He makes other guitarists proud of their instrument, unlike Santana, who by the way I don't hate but it drives me crazy when someone asks: "you play guitar??? can you play santana?"
It's like Kenny G for sax players.
