I've got a few. Anybody else?
Kiwijohn suggested that I do a "Sharing Musical Ideas" redux, put all the ways we've figured out to post songs, riffs, lessons, chords, etc- in one thread. With links to TablEdit, Finale, Image places, so on.
A thread about open string jazz chords is something I've been considering, you know, like the Em9 that's played 024000. I use lots of these guys, guess the Mickey Baker 2 lessons have made me want to share some of the cooler ones.
A thread about whether we should have a Jazz Chords section, where would it go? Right now the threads about chords, the chords themselves, are scattered all over the board.
I could go on. Anyway, what topics are you thinking about today?

right......some open chords would be nice......I play the Em9 you posted a lot....once played the chord as an intro.for something like 12 bars for the song "I don't want to know"(Vaya Con Dios).....just using 0240xx,hammering on the 2,then bassE,followed by da dit dit da ,on the four strings.......... also nice is a sort of reverse to that...042000..(C#m7dim5)( or possibly an Em variation)..... I thought a lot about new possible threads......there could be more in Theory maybe ....there is not a lot there for instance on stuff like tritone substitution.....but that kind of stuff is easily found on the web elsewhere... .We could maybe thread on philosophical aspects of playing jazz..... or what about the use of midi backing(ugh) for people who cant find a band to play with..there are some moral points there.....or "is it cool to use keyboard beats and rhythms if your drummer walks out?"(no it never happened to me)....is it better not to play? I still,in fact, think that the best area forward is in the "sharing of musical ideas"...it's a pretty important part of jazz to jam and create,(or to create in solo).maybe we could set up some programme for actual jamming in real time...with a link from the forum to the jam site.....perhaps someone out there knows how to do it(I know it's possible) I'm looking forward to reading posts from other members......... I'm sure there are better ideas than mine out there but I feel it's good to respond with whatever you've got...whatever it is.... lets make 2005 a more interesting year.I've picked up things in this forum that have been of great worth to me....and I'm sure others have too.....

open chords .....as regards the 042000...a movement from 03200(Cmaj7) to 042000 is pretty sweet......maybe follow it with an Am9 using another open chord x05500,and perhaps fingerpicking that while employing the added tones of x05502 and x05503..... anyone want to take it further?

I think a thread on open string jazz chords is great...where to put it is the question. Not here, because this is about thread ideas, really just a place to talk about what we may do when we get the energy, hah!
I've promised some other threads, an index (since we don't have a search function), more songs, other things to play.
What would you think of a section called Jazzchords and Chord Progressions? Like, right now that Open String Jazzchords would probably fit at Misc.Lessons or Theory, but I guess the larger issue is organizing. We added a Chord-Melody section, but this thread won't have melodies, won't explain Theory. Anders' Blues thread is another great one that really didn't fit anywhere.
I'm rambling...anyway, tell me some more ideas.

I guess you'll notice I've done a couple of things, made a home for jazzchords, moved a couple more threads, started off-topic. The open string chord thread is at the expanded Comping section.
Now, if we just had some riffs to put at Improvising...

Today I'm really tempted to start a thread for new members who have trouble logging in or posting. I'm not sure why this is happening, but I'm pretty sure it's more common than not. New folks join almost every day, but only a few ever make a post or contact me. What to do?

I had posting trouble again yesterday. I could only post to certain threads. I could not post to Kawe's Classical action thread, for example, but I did post to others. I can't figure out why.

Prof, I did a little maintenance on the board, they have a feature called "fix a board." LOL Hope that helped.
Slowpoke just asked for more easy exercises. Man, I can think of a bunch of them. Short things that are musically interesting, but not too hard to play...we could use more threads like that.

A couple more forthcoming-
I was thinking last night about the first songs I learned which featured jazzchords. Till There Was You and Julia by the Beatles, Scotch and Soda by the Kingston Trio come to mind. Haven't figured out where to post them yet, whether the effort would be worthwhile.
Another thing I want to do is post the 33 Mickey Baker chords in a thread. I'm going to put them down in our 46X577 46X588 format, with the notes and names and a little discussion. (that was D13b5b9 to Gma7, hah!)

That first chord is, bottom to top, Ab-Eb-C-B-Gb. How's that a D chord? Looks more like Ab#9--Ab-C-Eb-Gb-B. And the second one, Ab-C-Eb-G-C is not a GM7 either. Looks like AbM7, Ab-C-Eb-G.......or did I miss something?

I drew the second one wrong (one fret up). Should be 35X477 for Gmaj7. Too early in the morning. The first chord is rootless. Draw a D13. The 5th is A, so Ab is the b5. Ninth of D is E, so Eb is the b9. C is the dom7. Gb (F#) is the third. B is the 13th of a D chord. His point was the move from 46X577 to 35X477 Sorry for the confusion.

I've been thinking about the subject of approaches to learning difficult material. Guess it's a teacher/student kind of discussion, like the intros in most lesson books.
We have some examples to the "advanced" side of "intermediate" now, latest being Kawe's Quadrivial Quandary at Misc.Lessons. I guess I'd put it in a thread called Memorizing, as I don't think you really know a piece until you can stand up and perform it without any paper in front of you.
The challenge for the teacher is to encourage the student to go through all the steps it takes to get to that place. Big subject, eh?

That's a pretty big leap--from learning straight to memorizing. There are alot of important steps in between. Also, not everything has to be memorized in order to be learned and applied to another lesson or series of lessons. Most importantly, while memorization is very nice, it does not require understanding. I prefer students to achieve understanding, for only then is retention realized.

Does sound like a subject that could make a thread or two, don't you think Prof? How to teach, how to learn...not quite sure where it would go. I'm sure you've thought about the process a lot.
