I posted these chords over in Recording, "Kind of Blue."
Just wanted to show that they're not so bad, though they're unusual.
Blue In Green
ll: BbMaj7#11 l A7#9 l Dm13 Db7 l Cm7 F7b9 l BbMaj7#11 l A7#9#5 l Dm11 l E7#9#5 l Am9 l Dm9 :ll ending BbMaj7#11 l A7#9 l Dm13 ll
I play the BbMaj7#11 two ways, first up high ,X88 10 10 12 because the A7#9 is easiest to play at fret 12 and the progression steps down to the next Bbmaj7#11 if you play it 6X775X. (E is the #11, and is the high note in both these forms).
The next chord that looks weird is A7#9#5, but its really easy. The #5 is an F, so you just play the reg A7#9 chord X12 11 12 13X with your little finger flat and sound the F. X12 11 12 13 13
E7#9#5 is the same chord, root on fret 7. You know the others, right?

Hey Mahayana, I forgot that you posted this (I'm working on it now).
What you posted:
ll: BbMaj7#11 l A7#9 l Dm13 Db7 l Cm7 F7b9 l BbMaj7#11 l A7#9#5 l Dm11 l E7#9#5 l Am9 l Dm9 :ll ending BbMaj7#11 l A7#9 l Dm13 ll
The only change I make is relatively minor (identified in brackets):
l: BbMaj7#11 l A7#9 l Dm13(Db#11 l Cm11) Cm7 F7b9 l BbMaj7#11 l A7#9#5 l Dm11 l E7#9#5 l Am9 l Dm9 :ll ending BbMaj7#11 l A7#9 l Dm13 ll
A great tune!

Glad to see you getting into this one, JA.
If I'm following, you just subbed Db11 for Db7, did you mean to sub Cm11 for Cm7 or add that chord to the measure?
Of course the recording doesn't have guitar, and the piano part has lots more chords than this. I think the elevenths sound fine, this piece is all about embellished chord sounds.
Just curious if you've found sheet music for the melody, I need to learn that! Though I doubt I'll ever be able to chord-melody this one, just doing a simple comp is my accomplishment to date. But I'd like to do all the parts!

Hi mahayana! I have a midi-file of that song (4.30 min - piano.). If that helps, let me know.

Hi M. Yeah, I chord melody this one. It's really not that difficult given the right chord inversion. As far as the Cm7 thing, I put a quick Cm11 just before it as it contains the melody note (F) and then up to a Cm9, as it contains the D on the 1st string. Kinda lays out nice on the guitar.

Well, you've got my interest stimulated, JA. Do you think you can show me how you do it?
You know, post the melody, and then the inversions a few measures at a time?
I know it's a head-scratcher, I'm trying to figure how to post my first chord-melody over at Comping. Maybe you can help me work out a good way?

How about the whole shebang. Here's what I'd start off with. Remember, this has to be "measureless" or rubato. You really have to know the melody to catch on. Complete chords are between the colons. The number furtherst to the right is the melody note in the chord (some chords have comas to indicate double digit fret numbers, play as one chord).
XX8101012: XXXXX10: X12,11,12,13X: XXXX11X:
10X10,10,10X: 9X988X: 8X886X: XX78810:
6X775X: XXX7XX: XXX6XX: XXX7XX: XXXX6X: XXXXX5:
XO5668: XXXXX5: X5X553: XXXX6X: O76778:
XXXX9X: 5X5557: XXXXX5: 10X10,10,10,13: XXXXX9: I play some five finger chords as you can see, but you can also leave off the bass note. I hope you can interpret this. It's just one arrangement of the melody. I'm hoping to come up with more chord inversions to harmonize the melody. Enjoy!

Thanks, JA. I'll try it when I get home tonight. We'll standardize our presentations eventually, find an easier way to post as tab. I know some little sub-program exists for this.
But for now, those X-chords are accurate, and that's great. (as many times as I've heard and comped Blue In Green, the melody doesn't stick, odd huh? It may take sheet music to get over this bump)

Hey pinsk94. Very nice work. You got it. Now, how do the rest of us post arrangements in the format like yours? What software (or other) did you use?

Well unfortunately it was not very efficient. I scanned a copy of the tune from a fake book. Then I copied a line and pasted on to a word doc. Then I typed the rest. Then repeated for the next line. After completed, I selected all, then pasted on adobe Photoshop. Then exported as a GIF so it would show up in the forum. Is that confusing enough for you. I am sure there is an easier way.

Wow, pinsk. We'll have to appoint you translator and communications officer. That's exactly the way things should look, and thanks for the music score.

Hey mahayana, how do you like the tab for Blue in Green? Have you tried it yet? I sure wish we could get my TabEdit arrangements in here. They have both tab and music and I got a ton of them. Anyhow, guess we gotta keep on bugging pinsk (I couldn't download that Guitar Pro program. Wouldn't work for me).

Hi JA, Maybe you could send the files to me in an email as an attachment. Send a few at a time so not to clog things up. Then I will try to find away to post it. Maybe we can have a featured song of the week at beat it to death for a while. Talk about improv, comping, chord melody and all that fun stuff.
